The transformative impact of the Fulbright Scholar Program is on full display at Rice University, where approximately 100 Fulbright students from around 30 countries are currently pursuing graduate studies. Funded by the U.S. State Department, the program brings some of the world’s brightest minds to the U.S. to earn advanced degrees and engage in cross-cultural exchange.

Students say Rice offers an ideal environment for academic growth and global connection.

Megha Bahl, a graduate student in anthropology, practiced as a lawyer in India for about eight years before applying for a Fulbright scholarship to come to Rice.

“Rice is a wonderful department,” Bahl said. “We have a lot of scholarly work happening here on environment-related issues, on the political economy. Rice gives me that interdisciplinary space to pursue the questions that I want to think about.”

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program also offers over 400 awards in more than 135 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects.
