Rice University hosted representatives from Tuskegee University March 27 and 28 to discuss opportunities regarding academic and research collaborations. The two universities signed a memorandum of understanding to pursue such efforts.
Rice and Tuskegee share a rich history of partnership. Under the leadership of Executive Vice President for Research Ramamoorthy Ramesh, the Office of Research is actively working to strengthen this relationship, fostering collaboration in academic and research endeavors.
“Our partnership with Tuskegee can help build on all four of Rice’s strategic research areas that we want to focus on, which include climate change and energy, health care sciences, artificial intelligence and disparities in urban communities,” Ramesh said. “Working together with other great institutions like Tuskegee allows Rice to explore previously untapped avenues of growth and development.”
Tuskegee representatives S. Keith Hargrove, provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, and Vijay Rangari, interim associate vice president for research and sponsored programs and professor of materials science and engineering, attended the meeting and signing.
“This is an opportunity to build a foundation for collaboration among industry, Rice and Tuskegee University,” Hargrove said. “It’s about capabilities, students and advancing research in strategic areas, and we’re looking forward to doing some great things between our institutions.”
Representatives from industry partners including Pacific Engineering, Collins Aerospace and Clarkson Aerospace also attended the event.
