The Owls have now won their last three road games in American Athletic Conference play and are starting to heat up before a two-game homestand this week.

Senior guard Travis Evee hit back-to-back 3-pointers late, and the Owls made 6 of 8 free throws to close the game as they defeated Memphis 74-71 Jan. 31 at FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. Sophomore guard Mekhi Mason then scored a career-high 30 points to help hold off UTSA and earn an 80-76 victory Feb. 3 at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio.

“"It’s a great win for our guys,” head coach Scott Pera said following the win at UTSA. “To win three in a row in conference is very hard. It’s just been an unbelievable series of close games. I’m just glad we could get out of here with a win.”

After Rice’s battle against SMU, the Owls will take on the University of South Florida Feb. 10 at Tudor.
