The Rice University community celebrated Diwali with two vibrant events highlighting the cultural significance of the Hindu festival of lights.
The celebration Deepotsav ’24 was held Nov. 3 at the Rice Memorial Center and featured a cultural performance showcase, authentic Indian dinner and an open dance floor. It was organized by Indian Students at Rice and the Graduate Student Association. A second event, Deepavali, was organized by Rice’s South Asian Society and featured colorful rangoli designs, glowing diyas, illuminating sparklers and dance performances in the Academic Quad.
The celebrations aimed to bring together students from diverse backgrounds to honor the spirit of Diwali - a time for renewal, unity and the triumph of light over darkness.
