“Susann embodies the best parts of Rice’s culture,” said Michelle Thackray, associate vice president for operational excellence and engagement. “She is mission-driven, strives for excellence, is extremely creative and is a natural at connecting folks to enhance the university. It’s an absolute pleasure to work with her to accomplish the Office of Finance and Administration’s strategic priorities."

As director of communications for F&A, Glenn oversees strategic, long-range communications plans and programs that support each office division’s goals and objectives.

“Susann is an exemplary member of our community,” said Bridget Gorman, dean of undergraduates and professor of sociology. “When I think of Susann, the words that pop to mind are responsible, energetic, creative and eager to help. She has great people skills and is particularly adept at helping smooth out difficult situations and finding solutions when problems arise.”

Glenn serves as the staff chair for the current Rice United Way Campaign and is a Critical Dialogues on Diversity workshop instructor for undergraduate enrollees.

Her impact at Rice goes beyond her job; she is deeply involved in student life. Over the years, Glenn has taken a keen interest in hiring and mentoring Rice undergraduates as interns, informally known as “Glennterns.” Glenn also participates in the mentorship program with the residential college presidents, works with several student organizations across campus and is an associate at Duncan College.

Glenn has proven as a valuable asset during times of crisis, according to her supervisors, including supporting relief efforts during Hurricane Harvey and other inclement weather events and playing an integral role on Rice’s Crisis Management Team in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Glenn’s other accolades at Rice include the Distinguished Employee Award, the Centennial Star Award, the Outstanding Staff Associate award, the Hudspeth Award and the 2019 Student Association Mentoring Award.
