Rice University EMS receives donation from AHA

REMS donation from the American Heart Association

Rice University Emergency Medical Services (REMS) is now able to expand its slate of first aid training thanks to a donation of two CPR & First Aid Anywhere Kits by the American Heart Association (AHA).

The reusable kits allow participants to practice cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a manikin while watching skills performed correctly on a DVD, a research-proven way to learn and retain lifesaving skills.

REMS plans to use the kits as part of its hands-only CPR training.

“REMS teaches these classes regularly for groups and departments on campus, and these new kits will allow us to teach bigger classes and reach more interested persons who want to learn these life-saving skills,” said Lisa Basgall, REMS director.

Rice EMS is an accredited training site associated with the University of Texas School of Dentistry’s AHA Training Center. REMS offers CPR and First Aid Certification classes for all interested individuals and groups on campus.

REMS is offering hands-only CPR classes at no cost all summer. Contact remscpr@gmail.com for more information or to schedule a class.
