An international audience of more than three dozen quantum researchers, including Rice University’s Pengcheng Dai, Randall Hulet, Douglas Natelson, Han Pu, Ming Yi and Boris Yakobson, attended the Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellowship (VBFF) Symposium on Extreme Quantum Materials at Rice Nov. 9.
The symposium featured research on the physics of strongly correlated quantum materials. It also marked the launch of a five-year research program by Qimiao Si, the Harry C. and Olga K. Wiess Professor of Physics and Astronomy, who won a 2023 Vannevar Bush Fellowship from the Department of Defense to pursue the validation of a groundbreaking framework to create and control topological states of matter in quantum materials. The symposium was co-hosted by Si and Dai.
“We are grateful to the VBFF program for supporting our research,” Si said. “As a part of our efforts to achieve the objective of the VBFF project, which is to realize new quantum materials with exotic physical properties, we will build a strong community to foster interactions and collaborations in this exciting area of quantum research.”
