Rice offers flu shots over four clinics at RMC

flu shot being administered

Most influenza activity occurs from October to May in the United States, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. To provide extra protection during flu season, Rice will provide no-cost flu vaccinations to all faculty, staff and retirees.

The flu shots will be offered in Rice Memorial Center’s Grand Hall.

The schedule is as follows with the last appointment 15 minutes before the end of each session:

  • Thursday, Sept. 14: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 19: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 27: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 5: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Appointments have first priority and may be scheduled online.

These vaccination clinics are for both employees and students. There will be a separate faculty/staff line, so please enter the correct line upon arrival.

To expedite the administration process, print, complete and bring this consent form.

For those who cannot attend one of these sessions, the university urges employees to receive the flu shot at a network pharmacy within their medical plan. Most plans offer the flu vaccine at no cost.

The updated COVID-19 booster is expected to be approved in the coming weeks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration. Once approved, Rice will offer the updated COVID booster during these same sessions when possible. If it is not approved until after these appointments, Rice will offer separate COVID booster opportunities on campus at a later date.

The COVID booster will only be available at no cost to active benefits-eligible faculty and staff, regardless of whether or not they are enrolled in Rice's medical plan. The flu vaccine is available to all faculty and staff at no cost, regardless of benefits-eligible status.
