Evelyn Tang, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy and a member of Rice University’s Center for Theoretical Biological Physics, is one of 17 early-career researchers to receive a $50,000 award in the inaugural year of the Scialog: Molecular Basis of Cognition initiative, which will begin with a conference Oct. 12-15 in Tucson, Arizona. The initiative is sponsored by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research, the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation, The Kavli Foundation and the Walder Foundation.

Humanities Computing Researcher/Facilitator John Mulligan, who won the Eureka Award as part of the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Excellence Awards for the Center for Research Computing's work on SlaveVoyages, the world’s largest repository of information about the trans-Atlantic and intra-American slave trades, discussed the effort on a recent episode of Oracle's Research In Action podcast.

The College Media Association has launched the Kelley Lash Travel Grant in memory of the late former Rice director of student media. The grant will provide opportunities for student media advisers to attend conventions through travel grants and letters of support encouraging matching funds from their universities, with special consideration given to those from community colleges, tribal colleges, Hispanic-serving institutions, historically Black colleges and universities, and faith-based universities.
