HOUSTON, June 28, 2023 — Rice University’s Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies has announced Kristen Schlatre as its new assistant dean for professional and corporate programs.
Schlatre previously served as director of the Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership (CPNL). In this capacity, she has been responsible for implementing the strategic direction of the Center through ensuring the continued quality and growth of professional development opportunities for staff, volunteers and board members serving mission-based organizations. With her team, she has also implemented a strategy of business-to-business marketing and partnerships, opening up new working relationships with numerous local non-profits.
In her new role, Schlatre will continue to lead the CPNL and take on strategy and leadership responsibilities for the Professional and Corporate Programs, one of the fastest growing units at the Glasscock School.
“The Glasscock School and the nonprofit community have had the good fortune of benefiting from Kristen’s expertise in her roles within our Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership for the past 10 years,” said Robert Bruce, dean of the Glasscock School. “Having seen that expertise firsthand, we are thrilled to further extend her reach into our professional offerings. Her keen insight and passion for individual and organizational success are certain to propel the students and businesses we serve.”
Schlatre’s education includes a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Houston and master’s degrees in both public affairs in nonprofit management and philanthropic studies from Indiana University through the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, respectively. She earned a graduate certificate in executive and professional coaching from the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas and received her associate certified coach credential in 2023.
Following the completion of her graduate degrees, she assumed roles in social service organizations including United Way of Greater Houston, Communities In Schools of Houston and YMCA of Greater Houston. Schlatre has experience managing grant portfolios, coordinating volunteer programs, implementing evaluation efforts, developing partnerships and talent management. Her professional roles have also included board development and implementing strategy for program and revenue growth. She earned the certified fundraising executive credential in 2012.
She was a member of Leadership Houston’s Class XXIX and has served the community through board leadership as a past board member for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Houston Chapter, CanCare, Inc. and the Junior League of Houston. She currently serves as a member of the Nonprofit Academic Affinity Advisory Committee for OneStar Foundation, Advisory Committee for Power Tools for Nonprofits Conference and the local advisory board of Delta Zeta Sorority.
