Crystal study may resolve DNA mystery
When cells reproduce, the internal mechanisms that copy DNA get it right nearly every time. Rice bioscientists have uncovered a tiny detail that helps understand how the process could go wrong. Yang Gao, graduate student Caleb Chang and alumna Christie Lee Luo used time-resolved crystallography to analyze the flexible enzymes called polymerase as they bend and twist to rapidly reassemble complete strands of DNA from a pool of C, G, A and T nucleotides.

Rice to release 41st annual Kinder Houston Area Survey
Houstonians' views on the economy, crime, the pandemic and other issues related to the city's demographic transformations will be revealed in the 2022 Kinder Houston Area Survey, which will be released at a May 17 at a luncheon at the Marriott Marquis Houston. The 41st annual survey is the last conducted by Stephen Klineberg, founding director of Rice's Kinder Institute for Urban Research and professor emeritus of sociology.

Computational detective work by U.S. and German physicists has confirmed cerium zirconium pyrochlore is a 3D quantum spin liquid.
