Robert F. Curl (1933-2022)
Alumni James Heath and R. Stanley Williams co-authored an obituary for late alumnus and former Professor Emeritus Robert Curl, who died July 3 at 88. Curl was part of the research team that shared the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of buckminsterfullerenes, or "buckyballs," a new form of carbon, which included the late Richard Smalley, the former Gene and Norman Hackerman Professor of Chemistry.
