Rodney McMillian’s “Untitled (The Supreme Court Painting)” was created as a response to the court’s Bush v. Gore decision that settled the 2000 presidential election.

Rice’s Moody Center for the Arts premiered its fall exhibition Sept. 18 and 19 in a two-night, socially distanced opening; registration spots for both nights booked up quickly.

Music was provided by DJ Sun on the Moody’s patio and Houston Poet Laureate Leslie Contreras Schwartz performed a new poem-sound piece in response to the exhibition Sept 18.

Two of those artists will take part in “Artists-in-Dialogue” Zoom conversations later this semester — Coco Fusco on Oct. 8 and Catherine Opie on Oct. 22. “States of Mind” runs through Dec. 19. (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
