Fifty tons of silica sand were carefully transported into the Moody Center for the Arts for its new fall exhibition, “Kapwani Kiwanga: The Sand Recalls the Moon’s Shadow,” which debuted Sept. 17 with an opening party that spilled out onto the patio of the Moody.
The exhibition includes two site-specific installations by the Paris-based artist, “Maya-Bantu” and “Dune,” as well as a 2012 video, “Vumbi,” all speaking to the ways in which humanity’s interactions with and appreciation of nature changes over time. (Photos by Jeff Fitlow)
