Chloe Oani ’21 moved all around the world as a child because of her dad’s job, so when it came time to make her own decision about where to attend college, she took it very seriously.
“Rice makes it so easy to fall in love with everything that they offer,” she said. “I think it's maybe the residential college system, where each residential college is a microcosm of the university itself. You're going to meet people that you may not necessarily meet with a university of 40,000 undergraduate students.”
Oani, an economics and sport management double major, has done her best to meet the Rice community. “Rice has really allowed me to embrace my quirky side, or what we deem is unconventional wisdom here,” she said. “I've had the opportunity to meet all the Chloes of Rice, or have Fitbit step challenges with the university president.”
The two-time Lovett College president has also found time to be the student manager of the Rice soccer team. “I knew that playing soccer wasn't in the cards for me, at least at the Division I level in university, but I knew I wanted to still be involved somehow,” she said. “I love soccer, but I'm also a huge people person. And so I've met at least 30 new friends on the soccer team.”
Oani says she will miss the people the most after she graduates in May. “I have never had a boring day. I think there's so much for me to do that sometimes I just don't know what to do with all of it,” she said. “I look forward to especially being a Lovett alum, because this university has given me possibly more than I could ever imagine.”
