Vice President for Administration Kevin Kirby, chair of Rice's Crisis Management Advisory Committee, sent the following message to the university community Aug. 27 regarding Hurricane Laura:
Our thoughts are with our neighbors in East Texas and Louisiana who are still dealing with the impact of Hurricane Laura, but we are relieved to report our campus is in good condition after the storm.
While the university has ceased normal operations and today’s events and classes have been cancelled, buildings can be accessed after noon today with card swipe admittance for faculty, research groups and others who need access. The campus entrances that were closed overnight will be open by noon.
I would like to thank everyone who helped Rice get ready for the storm and all of the essential personnel who stayed on campus overnight to monitor the hurricane and deal with any problems that might have arisen.
The campus will resume normal operations and classes will resume on Friday, Aug. 28.
