Baker Institute event on USMCA to feature Reps. Brady and Beyer
The evolution of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and what it means for the future of North American trade will be examined in a Sept. 2 webinar hosted by the Center for the United States and Mexico at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy
Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas and Rep. Don Beyer of Virginia will “provide the context in which the USMCA — the most important U.S. trade agreement in a quarter century — became a reality,” according to the Baker Institute.
The USMCA went into effect July 1 but the transition from the previous deal, the North American Free Trade Agreement, will continue into the fall and beyond. Implementing it effectively presents enormous challenges not only for the three governments, but also for businesses, workers and other stakeholders in North America. The trade deal’s success or failure will impact hundreds of millions of people.
This is the first in a series of five USMCA webinars, which will feature experts from the United States, Mexico and Canada and provide up-to-date information on the progress, successes and challenges of putting the the deal's provisions into practice.
The webinar, "A Conversation on Ratifying and Implementing the USMCA: A View from Congress," takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 11 a.m.-noon CDT. Registration is required, but the event is free. A recording will be available the following day at the same link.
