US-based university develops hand-held, automatic ventilators to fight coronavirus
A team of Rice engineering experts and students collaborated with health design firm Metric Technologies to develop a prototype of a bag valve mask ventilator that can be built for less than $300. Quoted are Matthew Wettergreen, associate teaching professor at the Oshman Engineering Design Kitchen, and Dr. Rohith Malya, adjunct assistant professor of bioengineering at Rice and associate of the Rice 360° Institute for Global Health.
